Screen community helps Christchurch clean-up
10th March 2011
The New Zealand screen community is doing its bit for the people of Christchurch as they try to put their shattered lives back together. Film New Zealand CEO, Gisella Carr says 21 portable showers used on location shoots have been sent to welfare centres in the city and two additional shower units have been installed for the army of construction workers to use.
A wide range of industry businesses across the country are footing the bill and Film New Zealand has raised $30,000 so far. It is a privilege to be able to offer some help to Christchurch people who have shown so much resilience and bravery in a very dark time. The generosity of screen businesses has been heart-warming.
Film New Zealand is very grateful to its industry partners including feature film and television companies, post-production and VFX, casting agencies, film support organisations and a number of companies from the television commercial sector. Gisella Carr says screen organisations also have numerous other fund-raising projects going on including film screenings and other special events, donation apps for i-phones and online auctions of film-associated memorabilia.
Shortly after the first showers were installed, the following article appeared in the Otago Daily Times: http://www.odt.co.nz/news/national/149915/scattered-showers-welcomed.
